Handcuffed To Your Desk – Learn To Pick The Lock

Finding A Way to Free Yourself

Here we are on Thursday and the weekend if rolling in fast. Suddenly I am jolted by the amount of work that is holding me with only 1 day left in the week. If you’re anything like me, you tend to bring the burdens of your job home with you. And it sucks!

Forgive my bluntness but it does!

Most of the time, I’ve got this pile of work sitting on my desk eating away at my energy. Like a battery being sucked dry in one of my kids toys that they forgot to turn off. Not doing anything but wasting energy. My energy!

For YEARS I let this get to me. Things weren’t going so well at work and I would dwell on my situation on the 1 hour commute home.  By the time I hit the door… all I wanted was to sit down and watch television and veg out.

What I have found is that programming can be changed. It’s a thought pattern that leads to a feeling. That feeling leads to another thought pattern and the cycle goes on until you are so friggin depressed that nothing anyone can say or do could snap you out of that negative field and all you want to do is go to bed so you can dream about a better life. And it sucks! It’s almost as if you are literally hand-cuffed to your JOB. It affects every part of your life.

There’s a way to free yourself. I’m not kidding. I’m finding out myself and I have got to tell you… It works.

Turn Your Commute Into a University

One way… and only one way… is to literally turn your commute into a learning environment. Listen, I am just in love with music as the rest of the world.

Some moments call for a little Tool – Sober
Especially while stuck in traffic.

But…

There’s also… what I like to call… Programming on Wheels.

Where I believe the best place to start is to turn off the NEWS talk station or the dumb DJ’s that giveaway crap if you are the 1000th caller… Find the cases to your CD’s so you don’t scratch them… and stop at Borders or FYE or ITunes or Torrent it for all I care…

Whatever it takes, get your hands on The Mozart Effect.

imagesThis little series of songs written by Mozart and played by some of the most fantastic musicians I have ever heard, will change your life. The effects of this classical music can be tremendous. Imagine just putting yourself into a realm of pure creativity. What this does to the mind is in my opinion allows uninhibited creative flow.

It doesn’t even have to be the Mozart Effect series (although I believe the arrangements of songs in the series are outstanding and right on). You can pick up any Mozart or any of the Classical Geniuses for that matter and have the same affect.

If you don’t believe me, try it.

If it doesn’t work for you… it only means that you are closed minded. I know that there isn’t anyone alive that can listen to this music and not be touched. Not only that… it’s for the positive.

Don’t ask me how it works… I have no freaking idea. My only reasoning is that it just gets your mind to dance and create and free itself from boredom.

Try It.

More to come on this series where I’ll talk about other ways to undo the cuffs that have you bound to your job.
